Troubleshoot installing Office - Work across multiple devices
“Office (bit or bit) couldn’t be installed” error when trying to install
I need to install Office on my new computer, but I cannot access the product key from the old one as it will not stay on long enough for me to extract that information. I understand from previous posts that it needs to be uninstalled from the old PC before installing on the new one.
Also, I did not purchase the software through Microsoft but at a store, therefore the old product information does not appear in my Microsoft online account. How can I install to the new computer if I am unable to locate the product key, or cannot get the PC to stay up long enough to extract the numbers?

You can obtain the actual Product Key from your Office Account. The problem you have is that Key is proof of purchase along with any other documentation provided by the vendor.

If Office was provided by the computer manufacturer and came preinstalled OEM then you cannot transfer the licence to another computer. If you purchased a retail version of Office and it was installed by the vendor the vendor should have asked you for your email address and password for a Microsoft Account.
If the vendor did not do this then you will not be able to reinstall Office from your Office Account. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
